A New Pragmatics, with applications to Assertions, Presuppositions, Pragmatic Encroachment, and more

Abstract of the Lecture 
 

This talk presents a new approach to Pragmatics and a new Pragmatic Theory, with applications to Assertion, Presuppositions, and more.The new Pragmatics comes in a new Conceptual Framework. The main concepts are: Steering-Thrusts, Pragmatic Stances, a new set of Norms – comprising Conversational Etiquette, and a cognitive state of Posting. This set of concepts makes it possible to provide a new outlook on Assertions, Presuppositions, Pragmatic Encroachment, and more. The contents of implicit content need not be propositional (as in Grice and Stalnaker), due to the variety of Pragmatic Stances.
